MACAO, January 8 – The Macao Special Administrative Region (SARM) government is opposed in the strongest terms to the content of a so-called analytical report recently released by the Continental Affairs Council of the Macao Region. Taiwan.
The report contains unfounded and biased claims about Macau’s development, and sorely lacks understanding of the practical situation in Macau and public opinion in the city. The report is a gratuitous attempt by authorities in the Taiwan region to interfere in Macao’s affairs and make inappropriate comments about Macau’s social, political and economic progress.
Since returning to the motherland – and with the strong support of the central government and the mainland as a whole as well as the leadership of the Macao SAR government, as well as concerted efforts across the community – Macau has maintained social stability and propelled its economy and the well-being of its people. Macau has achieved this by successfully implementing the principles of “One country, two systems”, “The people of Macao rule Macao” and a high degree of autonomy. Such achievements have gained worldwide recognition.
The political system of the Macao SAR has benefited from a substantial development since the city’s return to the motherland. RASM has gradually optimized the relevant electoral systems according to the characteristics and development needs of the city. Macao SAR has seen successful elections for seven successive terms of the Legislative Assembly and five elections for the post of Chief Executive. These elections were conducted in a fair, just, open and clean manner, and in accordance with the Basic Law of the Macao SAR and relevant electoral laws.
In Macau, all political rights – such as demonstrating and assembling – enjoyed by the people of Macau have been fully respected and protected, while news organizations are free to follow their own editorial initiatives. All of these factors illustrated the harmonious coexistence and mutual respect between the different voices in Macau.
Being part of China as a special administrative region, it is inevitable that Macau will participate in the country’s development efforts. Macao strives to participate in and integrate into the country’s development, especially with regard to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Great Bay region. The government of Macao SAR firmly believes that, thanks to the country’s beneficial initiatives, a better future is looming.
Currently, Macau is devoting all its efforts to advancing the work in accordance with the principles of “preventing epidemic, stabilizing recovery, protecting people’s livelihoods, promoting diversification, strengthening cooperation and long-term planning.” Macao will surely open new horizons and a new chapter of development with the strong support of the central government and the participation of the entire local community.
The Macao SAR government has always worked within the law regarding accreditation applications from people wishing to work in its Macao office. But in the Taiwan region, it has so far not been possible to renew the accreditation for people wishing to work for the Macao office in Taiwan, or to have issued a new accreditation for Macau staff wishing work there in rotation. As a result, the Macao office in Taiwan has had to cease operations as of June 19, 2021. A 24-hour hotline set up by the Macao Government Tourism Board is available to respond to inquiries and to contact us. any assistance requested by persons in both locations.
The government of the Macao SAR will continue to rigorously fulfill its constitutional responsibility to safeguard the sovereignty, security and development interests of the country. The Macao SAR government strongly opposes any attempt to inference in Macao’s internal affairs. Macau society will not be affected by any malicious effort from outside forces.
Macao will continue to abide by the Basic Law of the Macao SAR and the fundamental principles and policies implemented by the central government towards the Taiwan region as the basis for proceeding on issues between Macao and the Taiwan region. The Macao SAR government will continue to promote and deepen people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between Macao and the Taiwan region.
