LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh reported 7,695 new cases of Covid on Sunday, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to 25,974, similar to new cases reported in the third week of May 2021.
“There are currently 25,974 active cases in the state and among them 25,445 are in home isolation. This means that the need for hospitalization is minimal, but we have to follow the preventive measures and the Covid protocol, ”Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary, medical and health, said on Sunday at a press conference.
As of May 18, 2021, there were 8,737 new cases and then they gradually continued to decline.
However, after a 7-month gap, all 75 districts reported new cases of Covid on Sunday. The total number of Covid cases in the state has reached 1,737,550 and the death toll 22,928.
“The UP positivity rate reached 3.46%. A total of 222,428 covid samples have been tested in the past 24 hours, ”Prasad said.
Among the new cases, the high of 1149 was reported in Gautam Buddha Nagar, followed by 1115 in Lucknow, 922 in Ghaziabad, 715 in Meerut, 437 in Varanasi and 236 in Agra. Deaths have been reported in Badaun (1), Prayagraj (1), Meerut (1) and Bulandshahr (1). UP’s recovery rate is 97.2%.
Of the total number of cases, 321 were contacts of previously tested Covid patients, 182 had a history of travel from other states or countries and 184 had mild symptoms after which they were tested and the result was positive.
“Lucknow is increasingly reporting cases among close contacts of Covid patients as part of contact tracing. Of Saturday’s new cases, 253 were contacts of previous cases and similarly on Friday, there were 168 of those cases. This is a rapidly spreading infection, ”said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general of the Association of International Doctors.
Of the total number of cases in Lucknow, 224 were from Aliganj Covid Sample Collection Unit, 184 from Chinhat, 122 from Indira Nagar, 86 from Alambagh, 77 from Sarojininagar, 71 from NK Road, 85 from the Red Cross 62 Silver Jubilee, 32 from Tudiyaganj, and 18 from Aishbagh. Of the total number of cases, 682 were males and 421 were females.
Lucknow has so far reported a total of 242,731 Covid cases and 2,651 deaths.
